Only difficult to remove from thick iron surfaces.
A number of reviews have mentioned the necessity of a thread locker to prevent the eye bolt from backing out of the magnet. As a former award-winning salesman in the fastener business, I can tell you that the problem here is not a loose fit between the male threads of the eye bolt and the female threads of the magnet. The problem is the grade 0-2 of the furnished flat washer and lock washer, while the Rockwell hardness of the magnet itself is likely in the grade 5 range, if not harder. Most people are very likely not securing the eye bolt with sufficient torque to stretch the stud portion at all, let alone enough to utilize the tensile strength of this stud to resist further stretching and thus to never come loose. So, by applying a relatively soft flat washer and lock washer (grade 2 at the most ) between the bolt portion of the eye bolt and the magnet, it's only a matter of time before they "dish out", especially the thinner flat washer, thus causing your formerly "tight" fitment to become loose. So, the lesson here is this: Don't use the provided flat washer and lock washer. Take 2 small pieces of wood, say at least a half inch thick, put the magnet in a strong vise between the wood pieces, tighten very securely with the eye of the eye bolt sticking up. Then put a large screwdriver or some other long enough, strong enough, item, like a "bulldick" or a pry bar, into the eye, then pull this item with about 27 foot pounds of pull, assuming it's a 3/8 th bolt, or 41 foot pounds if it's a 7/16 th bolt, and assuming it's a grade 5, which it likely is. Doing this will stretch the bolt just a little, a few thousandths, but enough to utilize the 6600# of tensile strength (assuming it's a 3/8 " grade 5 bolt, to prevent it from coming loose. Use a torque wrench for this if you can figure out a way to secure the end to the eye. Otherwise just pull the item you put through the eye with about all the force you can muster while standing straight up and pulling with only one arm. DON'T USE THE PROVIDED WASHERS!!! Use hardened ones or none at all.

Weak - Not Strong at All - DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY - Junk
I am very disappointed. This magnet is weaker than your refrigerator magnets. Definitely not a 1000lb pull magnet. Not a 500lb either. Very weak. It will barely pick up a washer and screw. Not capable. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY on this. This is garbage. Should not be sold to anyone. I sent it back immediately after trying it out.

Only works if you know where metal item is located
Device is made well for the price. The magnet did not operate in the way I had hoped. I expected items to be drawn to it, or for it to be drawn toward items. The magnet is strong once you have placed it on a ferrous metal, but don't expect it to find anything "nearby" for you.
