I purchased this product to fill the empty space in my under water rock filter that collects a lot of filth in the large empty spaces. To do this I had to remove the contents from the bag though. However since it's really difficult to clean the empty space it normally pushes out filth as soon as I hook it back up and it had stopped cleaning the water. However it's been hooked back up for about 30 minutes with these bio balls added and the water already looks clearer than it has, after a cleaning, in a long time. Biggest plus is the bag was bigger than expected and I didn't even need the second bag I bought.Like others, I didn't receive the zipper bag but instead some other type of closure that I had to pull off... don't think it could be reattached but I don't need the bag anyway so no problem.To be fair I also added another small filter so not sure how much of the filtering can be contributed to these bio balls. I just know the filter is now pushing out clear water instead of dirty water with particles.

I have a 45 gallon tank with 2 external canister filters, which you can imagine is a lengthy & costly process to do a deep clean on (and I’m definitely not new to this process). I thought this product looked a lil funny...most of the pieces looked like plastic & the rest looked sort of like little hard red clay pieces. Ultimately, this product cost me at least $100 in equipment/new filters, 35 gallons of H20 (I can’t use city H20, so I have to buy spring water for the tank), & a ton of wasted time... After I thought I was finally done with cleaning the tank, putting everything back together, & refilling it with water...I turned on the canister filters & shortly after, I started to notice the entire tank turning red & then it just kept getting worse over the next couple of days. Finally I had to take everything apart again & I opened the canister filters, I saw that a red sludge was coming from this product & had caused a red film on everything in the tank. So now I’m having to start the cleaning process allllll over again.

I don’t understand all the good reviews. These people must. It shop around or use high quality brand name components; or they don’t understand the bio-filtration concept. These balls are extremely low quality. Even if they were high quality, this amount would not be a good deal. Normal amount for the price at best, IF decent quality. They do not have pores all the way though the material or even deep enough. They barely pass the surface - 1/16” at most, but most are 1/32”. The white cylinders don’t even have pores once you rinse them and look closely. Speaking of rinsing, I had to rinse them 5 times before the red washed off the couple “lava” rocks in the bag. A quality product would not have had so much residue continuously washing off. Furthermore, I would be wary of putting this product in my tank. From the obvious dubiousness of the seller and their product, there is no telling what the material’s composition is. You could be contaminating your tank and wondering down the line why issues are arising, never knowing it’s partly this product. We spend so much on our aquariums. Don’t risk it with this product.

The filter media is what I expected, but the mesh bag is very thin and brittle. It was torn when I opened the box and then it ripped again when I handled it.

I purchased this filter material to add in with the charcoal in my bio bags, but the size of this material is fairly large. Largest material (filter balls) was an inch in diameter and the barrel shaped material was 1/2 in in diameter. I ended up braking the material up into 1/4 pieces and mixing with the charcoal. The material worked well. It kept the water clear twice as long as with just charcoal. I'm definitely going to purchase from this saler again, I'll just read thoroughly and get a much smaller size.

This is a good mixture of media for large filters. Most of the ceramic rings are very, very porous and have lots of room for bacteria to populate It also comes with bio balls, which also contain a lot of surface area to populate bacteria. Most of the pieces in the mixture are very large, so if you have a small or medium filter, this is probably not the best media you can buy, because not much of the media mixture will fit into smaller filters. It is not exactly a good value for the money, as you can buy better mixtures at the same or lower prices on Amazon.

It’s not the worst thing I’ve purchased, but I’ll go ahead and list pros and cons about this productPros: it’s a BIG bag, and the larger media pieces are great for filters with lots or extra space and canister filters. There’s an okay assortment in it, too.Cons: well, for one it was very dusty with a lot of powdery residue which I’m sure is fine and normal, but it requires multiple rinses. If you buy this, MAKE SURE YOU RINSE IT UNTIL THE WATER IS CLEAR. Secondly, though there is quite a bit of media, and an okay mix, there was some smaller random regular basic rocks thrown into the bag as a filler which is totally unnecessary. And if you’re someone with a smaller sized filter, some of these pieces might be too large to fit.Bottom line, it’s a big bag and I’ll definitely use it but I won’t be purchasing again. I can buy the same quality of media at a much lower cost.

Five hundred grams is a bit more product than I expected (I ordered two to be on the safe side). But that’s a good thing! Product came in good shape and I found that I only needed one bag to fit into my turtle’s waterfall/filter.I saw comments saying that they either got the bag in the description or didn’t. My bags did not come with a zipper mesh pouch, but did come with the product already in mesh with a clasp closure. The zipper part doesn’t matter to me, but if there’s a chance that the product isn’t going to contain the mesh zipper pouch, I’d leave it off the description.
