SmartScore X MIDI Edition [Old Version]

I bought this MIDI version (very unique software). It does one thing -- convert sheet / book music to MIDI format file. I then use the MIDI file in Band In A Box and that is why the SmartScore software shines in my book.It takes some self-learning. The documentation is terrible and written by a 3rd-grade non-American using severely broken Engrish. You can figure it out if you have the persistence. It really has more settings than you need as far as I'm concerned (feature-bloat) -- seems like the settings could be done on the 'finished' MIDI side instead of making it a 'requirement' before scanning your music.All in all -- I'm satisfied except for the documentation.

This is a perfect startup for converting existing scores to midi format.

50% of the time the scan does not produce a recognizable music sheet ready for midi file conversion. Lots of time consuming editing required. May need to try some different stuff. But some pdf sheetmusic looks ultra clean and readable but it will not even convert to a TIFF file even before the recognition process. sent an email with the pdf for recommendations but never got a response back. But it is better than nothing and some sheet music does covert over pretty good to midi. Most of my sheetmusic is already in PDF format. I tried cut and pasting a pdf sheetmusic one time to ms paint, editing out edges, and then saving it as a TIFF file and it was then recognized by the program. So you may need to play around with it. But that is time consuming. I do not understand why there is a bit scan level requirements, if you can clearly read a pdf then why can't it recognize it.

For me, it didn't scan music well. I am not sure why, but I quit using it.

The quality of the playback is disappointing. I would have preferred to have keyboard input such as ABC music notation. I would hesitate to recommend this program.

I downloaded the free the demo first and try it. I tried every which way. Uploaded clear PDF files(not scans) . Simply music. Tried drums and bass. Nope! Contacted customer service. They finally just ignored me as it seems their only answer would be "sorry we sell software that doesn't work" Run and Save your money. This is second software of this type I have tired to no avail. A few more companies make similar. Onto the next one to try.

I have been a lifetime subscriber of SmartScore by Musitek beginning with SmartScore Beta and then 1.0. I keep updating and upgrading it. I understand that many people complain about the scanning/converting process. The user must use a high definition/graphics scanner of at least 360px and 400-460 is even better. A plain text scanner yields poor results. I have had Smartscore read clean structured, handwritten music notation correctly converting it to sheet music with 90+% accuracy. If you have a good quality scanner you can't go wrong buying this software.

This program is not as accurate as I expected it to be. Very disappointed in the scan results. Also, I was disappointed to find that it does not export to XML files, only MIDI. For my money, Finale PrintMusic is the better value in this feature range.
