A person can live for weeks without food, but significant damage can be done to your body in a matter of days without water. A 15 gallon water barrel will provide an individual with enough water for 2 weeks (a couple for 6 days/a family of 4 for 3 days). This means 2 quarts for drinking and 2 quarts for light personal sanitation and cooking per day. This amount is recommended as a minimum supply of emergency water.

This barrel changed my life! My previous 14 gallon barrel could only carry a fraction of the water I needed, and my 16 gallon barrel was just too unwieldy. I borrowed a friend's 14.5 gallon barrel, but what kind of lunatic would use a barrel with a fractional gallon measurement!?! Anyway, this thing is perfect for holding water. It's got everything you need, a base, walls and a top to keep the water within the confines of the barrel, the number of features are off the chart!!! It's even got a nice clear blue color so that it blends in with the sky when you're trying to hide your water in the clouds. The handles are a bit big for my toddler to use, but that's ok because it keeps him from stealing my water like the little kleptomaniac he is. If you need to hold between 14 and 16 gallons of water this barrel is perfect and I would highly recommend it!
