Great instrumentals
The Shadows are an important band in British music history, considered by many the country's first great rock 'n' band. I purchased this album after seeing a video featuring guitarist Hank Marvin. I then did some research and discovered that he ranks right up the top with other great guitarists and was such a great influence on others. Although the songs are more than 50 years old, they still hold up very well. The Shadows are a very tight group and produce a clean, guitar-driven sound with songs such as "Apache," "Kon-Tiki" and "The Stranger." The group also worked many years with Cliff Richard.

Killer Stuff
The Shadows have gotten dogged over the years, perhaps more than any other band, by the Beatles for being part of the old guard. George Harrison made fun of them in Anthology. Perhaps this was to boost their legacy as the British band of the 60s. The truth is, the Shadows are fantastic. They started to wind down by the mid-60s and I don't care much for their 70s material, but just about everything pre-67 is ace.Shadows Greatest Hits is bulletproof, fabulous stuff.

Content
Have watched and listened to many Shadows songs on YouTube. This compilation is not a true representation of their Greatest.

Always liked this album since I was a nipper.
Got the LP as a kid still have it but no player so got the CD which has every track repeated on it, you have to bear in mind that tunes / songs rarely went longer than 2 to 3 minutes when the Shadows showed the world what guitars could do.

Sounds much better than the LP.
I am an audiophile and also a fan of The Shadows for the past 40 years. It has been my impression that lps should sound better than any CDS until I bought this one. Go and get one while you can. You will not be disappointed.

Brings back memories
I first listened to the Shadows on my Dad's reel to reel tape! This CD has all the classics, and has much better sound quality than I remember. Surprised me, since past childhood memories are always better :)The also have stereo versions of many tracks on this CD.

A REVIEW OF SOMETHING THAT IS NOW 60 YEARS OLD?
Had been looking around for a replacement for my original (now tired and worn out) vinyl version of this 'classic' bit of pop history -- something I'd saved up my then weekly pocket money to buy. I believe it cost somewhere in the region of £1- 12- 6 in proper money. By comparison, I located this copy for a couple of quid or so and it's just as great as it ever was, even down to a replica of the LP sleeve inside. These lads were playing the same tracks at just about every one of their thousands of shows for nigh on 60 years, and they've only just retired as 'The greatest instrumental group in the world ever'. Obviously there are re-issues and compilations by the score out there on the market, but a lot of these are re-recordings and can contain some of their efforts at vocals. Yuk! Be honest, they just couldn't sing! Apart from Jet Harris and Tony Meehan leaving the line up here, they've only had one other drummer and a couple or three bass players in all their history -- which must also be a record (sorry about the pun). In middle years they were augmented by a keyboard player who was able to ape the strings sound that producer Norrie Paramour was insistent of having on 'Wonderful Land'. As nostalgic discs go, this 15 track selection is as good as it gets for a keepsake.

A great back-up group of the sixties and takes a baby ...
A great back-up group of the sixties and takes a baby boomer back in time. Nostalgic....and at times therapeutic as well and a positive mood enhancer!
