Non-fiction at its finest
I enjoyed this book. It reminded me of Michael Pollan's books, which I love. The author makes a compelling case for eating insects, and she definitely changed my perceptions. But what I loved most was her writing style. It's just beautiful, and I don't say that about much nonfiction. Not only does she make a compelling case, she does it in such a writerly way that's worth reading in and of itself. My only suggestion was that the chapters seemed to lose focus at times, jumping from story to story in a way that was sometimes jarring. I think better paragraphing would have eliminated this, as some of the sections could have been broken up a bit. But that is nitpicky, and it shouldn't stop you from buying. It's definitely worth reading.

Interesting and compelling work
This book has sparked an interest in me that I never would have seen coming. The arguement for eating insects is very compelling. It's also a fun read thanks to the authors style of storytelling and humor.

The waxworm tacos are awesome!
My boyfriend bought this book, and the next week he had ordered waxworms and started raising some and made tacos with the rest from Daniella's recipe. He finished the book the day it arrived! Lot's of really great information on the practice of entomorphagy, on raising arthropods, and some great recipes to go with them. I'd recommend this book for anyone who has an interest in insects and bugs, who loves exploring new foods and cultures, or who is seriously concerned about the future of our food and global society! Bon appetit!

Great Read, Very Persuasive
Fascinating subject, and I was totally convinced. I'm now actively pursuing more opportunities to make bugs a part of my diet. If that sounds gross to you, just go through this book. If you're somebody who cares about your health and the health of the planet, it's quite persuasive.

Timely and compelling
I find this book timely and fascinating. The idea does not make me want to go out and find a selection of insects to eat, but the book is well written and she is compelling in her presentation. I've shared it with a chef and an open minded friend. I think it deserves to be given thoughtful review. Thanks Daniella MartinI certainly would love to read a follow up by her.

Compelling and Entertaining
Her book is an easy read because it contains a seamless mix of light hearted stories, travel adventures, history and scientific facts...not to mention culinary descriptions that make your mouth water. While enjoying her journeys you realize the crazy notion of eating bugs doesn't seem so crazy afterall and by the end of the book you find yourself cheering on the movement and wishing their was a tasting party near you. I commend her for writing a book that is smart, entertaining, and promotes sustainable, earth friendly action that can potentially have a powerful impact for good.

An urgent, yet entertaining look at entomophagy!
The author lays out a compelling argument for the regular eating of insects based upon current theories of sustainability and population dynamics. She also adds her own bug-eating adventures and anecdotes. Very entertaining and enticing.

Some really good ideas and research have gone into the book
I found this book both interesting and incredibly informative. Some really good ideas and research have gone into the book, so I would definitely recommend getting it if you are interested in entomophagy.

Ms. Martin has an interesting slant on things, though as a scientist I am not so appreciative (or used to) her way of writing what is essential a factual assay or scientific argument as if it were prosaic work of art.

Great introduction to the subject area of eating insects
"Edible" is a great introduction to the new bug eater. It covers a high amount of subjects concerning eating insects for food including environmental, sustainability, and nutritional aspects. The book is written by a credible author and is current and relevant. Although I would have like to see more references used for some of the discussion points.I would and will recommend it.

This is a terrific read for anyone who loves food and nature!
My tentative entry into the world of bug eating began with joking around with #edibleinsect people on Twitter. I discovered right away that they were welcoming and had a robust sense of humour. Somewhere along the path I typed "edible insects" into the Amazon search engine and discovered Daniella Martin's book. At this point I am eager to read anything on the topic but I wasn't prepared for just how good this book would be. Daniella Martin is an enthusiast on the topic of entomophagy and is willing to go to great lengths to promote and back up her interest. Whether she is cooking insects for the Yale club in San Francisco, penetrating swamps in Louisiana for yummy creepy crawlies, or wandering the markets of Japan and Thailand, Martin is engaging, human and funny as hell. She, like most edible insect people, respect insects, studies them and is endlessly fascinated by their behavior. She rejects our widespread revulsion and challenges us to step outside our comfort zone. As you read Edible and look past the humour you find a writer with a mission; someone who cares deeply about the environment and sustainability. You also find an acute observer of nature and human beings who has written a book for anyone interested in food, the natural world, insects and excellent writing.

Amazing book!
This is a must-read book for anyone interested in entomophagy, it gives a wide spectrum of point of views regarding the alimentation, with a very easy and fascinating style of story telling.Don't expect it to be a universitary study book but you can easily find key argumentations for a pro-entomophagy discussion, well argumented and documented.Suggested present to introduce to anybody the argument! Very big compliments to Mrs Daniella!

Interesting & thought provoking read
A interesting tour of the current state of - and a persuasive argument for - eating insects. I'm persuaded of the merits and advantages - and almost persuaded to try eating some bugs; still have my cultural aversion, but I'm tempted!

Enticing
This book is not what has been sold me, but don't be fooled - it is very good. The level of detail is great, the recipes are good and it made me want to actually eat insects. Get it.

Ready to start eating
Great book for anyone interested in entomophagy. Gives an incredible account of adventures the author takes all over the world to try different insects. The variety of people and sources quoted make it a very powerful read. The book is not preachy but merely explains why eating bugs CAN save the world and why breaking the stigma on bugs is so important.

An intriguing and well-written book with an important vision
This is a fascinating read, with much to offer. One thing that does bug me, however, is the dismissive and derisive tone of a book purporting to be science-based towards a plant-based diet while simultaneously touting things like paleo and gluten-free as viable options. We now have decades of solid, pubished, peer-reviewed evidence that a non-fad, whole-food, plant-based diet is absolutely sufficient, viable and sustainable for anyone in the developed world, women, children and the elderly included.Regardless, I think the vision presented in this book is a sane alternative at a critical juncture in our history and is well worth reading regardless of your opinions going in.
