Excellent bluray
I waited for it to go on sale but it was worth it. It's made to order and it's on a burned BD disc but the picture quality is excellent and it plays great on all three of my players--one is my original Bluray player and another is a Region Free player. All good. HUGE upgrade from the movie only DVD, and features a commentary by director Martha Coolidge. Don't poo poo this because it's different. It's your only bluray choice for this movie at this time. IF it goes on sale again pick it up!

My two cents ...
Picture quality: Definitely superior to DVD, but below average compared to other Blu Ray's. There is a noticeable lack of detail and depth, plus I found aliasing (and I HATE ALIASING!)Chapters: Not scene specific in any way. Chapters are simply set at every 10 minutes, which inevitably drops you in the middle of some plotline, the middle of someone's sentence, whatever.Audio quality: I don't have a "real" surround system, but will say it sounds fine through my sound bar. Voices are clear, bass response (when music is playing) is adequate, etc..Extras: I enjoyed the lone extra, the director's commentary.Upon playing the disc, it displays the Sony Home logo, then immediately starts the movie. No previews to skip through, thankfully.Value for the money: I paid $26.99 + tax. That's pricey. Had the video quality been better, I would have given it four (or if fantastic, five) stars. Scene-specific chapters aren't a must, but still "would have been nice to have", as would have been additional extras. Accordingly, I can only give it three stars (cut the price in half and I'll add a star).Summary: Considering this is the best video quality/most extras we might ever see, you have to decide if the high price is worth it to you. For me, the answer is "yes".

5 Stars, With a Caveat
If you are searching Amazon for Real Genius Blu-ray, you are probably already a HUGE fan of this movie....as was I. If that's the case, then spending $25 is no big deal to get a clean 1080p transfer of a great 80's movie. The commentary track by director Martha Coolidge is a nice bonus, and worth the price of admission alone. All that being said, if you just want to burn a quick nostalgic lap around memory lane, you're fine buying the much cheaper DVD version. People are complaining a lot about this being a BD-R. That does raise some weird red flags about the genesis of this version, that being said, It worked great for me and I am very happy. I found the packaging and disc to be of high quality

BDR version
Did not realize this was a burned disc until I got it. Always seem to miss that obscure one line description that isn't part of the title. One star off because it's over-priced due to being a burned disc. Case is thicker than a regular bd case. Paper sleeve print quality is really good for a burned disc.Video quality is very good for a mid 80s film. Sound is good. Commentary is what it is.

The bare minimum
This disc contains the movie, and very little else. It is not indexed with chapters. The only subtitles are English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing. There is one commentary track, with the director. That's it. And it appears to still be on a recordable disc, with a dark grey dye. It's definitely not a pressed disc which would be bright aluminum. It's a great movie, of course, and the HD scan looks good. But I would recommend making a backup to a more durable medium if you buy this, because it will not last as long as a physically pressed BluRay disc.

Now Kent you know you're not supposed to park that on campus lol.
Awesome 80's flick, I've been waiting a very long time to own this on blu-ray. Picture and sound on this blu-ray are awesome! I have a portable Sony blu-ray/DVD disc player that i bought in 2015 and this disc played with no problem what so ever. (READ THE BOLD PRINT regarding whether or not this blu-ray will play on your model blu-ray player before purchasing!!!)
