As Good As It Gets - The Best Of Gene

A fantastic compilation from one of britains best kept musical secrets.Unjustly and lazily labelled as a smiths wannabe band by those talentless tossers of the british music press,who didn't have the good sense to realise that you could love both bands.Gene boasted a brilliant charismatic front man,and a great guitarist at least the equal of Marr and Morrisey in my opinion.Also a very tight rhythm section,and brilliant beautiful anthemic songs of great wit and intelligence.I like the smiths,but i love gene,it's a criminal bloody tragedy that they didn't become massive and get the respect they rightly deserved.Thankfully people are starting to become aware of their back catalogue,and just what an important band they were,and could have been if they hadn't split.Take the music press with a massive pinch of salt,if they could cut it in the music industry,they wouldn;t be stuck behind a word processer slagging off talented bands.IGNORE them and you be the critic,you know as much as they do,probably more.

Lead singer Martin Rossiter has recently released a solo album which is well worth a listen - and I was fortunate to see him live at a venue in leicester which prompted me to research earlier albums and come up with this 'best of' selection. I have thoroughtly enjoyed the mix of tracks, some you might recall, good lyrics that you can hear and enjoy their poetry.

My two favourite tracks are included, Fill her up & As good as it gets. This CD reminds you of how good they actually were! Another band under appreciated.

Excellent compilation of Smiths like Britpop from an undervalued band albit they should have left Jam songs to the Jam.
