Well I just started welding and for settings initial settings requires a precise thickness. With this quick little tool I can bypass having to get the dial calipers or micrometer. I keep one in my car for when I'm looking for metal at the scrap yard.

Helps me gauge my welding stock
I've been starting to do some light welding, and have a hard time judging metal thicknesses. That made me easy metal and wire while I experimented with my MIG settings till I got it right. Using this thickness gauge took most of the guessing out, so I waste less material.
