The best survey of the Romanesque
A superb and really important book, which covers its vast subject with precision

A vast array of knowledge hidden beneath an absolutely disgusting typesetting
While the book is certainly knowledgeable and I don't doubt Eric Fernie's skills when it comes to describing and giving us intellectual information on the subject the book is horrible with typesetting making it an incredibly painful read. Rivers, orphans, misaligned type dot every page. Theysometimesforgettoincludespaces. They hyphenate names and force single letters down to the line below making people's names transform from Josep Puigi to Joseph Puig i. The spacing between wordsseem erratic and nonsensical, as a Graphic Designer/Typesetter I've seen students who outperform this book in typesetting.Ultimately maybe if you don't mind these errors it may be a fascinating read, but I found each and every error cringe inducing and it made it impossible to turn past page 7. But I had to for my class. Seriously the typesetting of this book should've prevented it from ever being sold.

Outstandingly as good as I had expected!
The distillation of a life's work studying and teaching from one of the finest historians of the Romanesque period of architecture. One of my intellectual heroes and a superb book. Every page a treat!
