Shadows: Final Tour

The English version of the American Ventures. Some great guitar playing and original songs. First heard of them on a 45 from many years ago and thought they were a one record wonder. Thanks to Google and Amazon I was glad to be found wrong (again) and purchased this and a different cd. Not up to Venture ability (Nokie Edwards rocks) but great to listen to and learn from.

You can get real cosy with such a live concert each time you listen to it and the informative banter is great (like the need for both the "heavy" and "lighter" lead guitars). Good sound quality makes this a must for those of us born mid-twentieth century. This farewell concert also contained a few lesser-known pieces that I thought are a treat!

2cd/dvd set with identical material that stands out for the up to date full range of recording of instrumentals from 1950's and 60's. 2004 last reunion style concert that is spirited, fresh and yet true to originals. Only regret the destruction of the case during shipping.

The CDs work OK in the surond set up I have.the only trouble with the DVD it plays in one out of (3) DVD players I have.in one DVD player it shows its a pal floor mate so it won't play the dvd 5 stars for the CDs(1)star for the dvd

I grew up listening to this music and then forgot about it when I moved to the US 27 years ago. Now, it's like listening to it "again for the first time" - but with high(er) fidelity. There are a couple of tracks that seem to be lost but the bulk of the album is sheer delight; play it in the car or at home, it's great.

The Shadows Live is a very good 2 disk set which includes many of their great hits. They are great crowd pleasers and really seem to enjoy performing. Of course they are very talented.

Great CD's and great DVD all in one package. The Shadows are one of the best instrumental groups of all time.

Great compilation at a great value.

After fifty years in the music industry, the legendary band The Shadows decided to call it a day with a retirement tour and a stunning two CD/DVD collection that for all it is, is a must have for fans of the band.Sadly at the time, I couldn't attend one of these retirement shows and I actually forgot that The Final Tour was actually released on CD. When I came across it in a deal with a hefty The Shadows box-set I didn't hesitate to pick it up and I am very glad that I didn't.The Shadows' music will never be known as the most complex in the world but it is very easy to make their music sound bad. Thankfully the band appear to have kept in top shape with some fantastic lead guitar by Hank Marvin, rhythm guitar from Bruce Welch, Brian Bennett on drums with Mark Griffiths and Cliff Hall on bass guitar and keyboards respectively. What the band play is a very easy going rock n roll set list that is a surprisingly easy listen considering it is nearly two and a half hours long. The Final Tour features forty two of the bands most well known songs from the solo Apache and FBI to the well known Cliff Richard singles Summer Holiday and Bachelor Boy.The production for The Final Tour has been very nicely handled with each instrument getting the right amount of air time. Not once do any of the band members get drowned out and it is quite nice through a big set of speakers and headphones. I particularly loved the tone that is used by Hank Williams and it is great to hear it still a live and well after all these years.For those interested, this package is most definitely worth it for the DVD alone. The video quality is about as nice as you'll get from a 2008 DVD disc, the audio quality is just as clear and along with the double disc live album, it makes for a superb package. If you don't have and are a fan of The Shadows, get it. If you love rock n roll in general, get it. The Final Tour by the Shadows was a brilliant show from talented musicians. Hank Marvin is still the best instrumental guitarist I know and has not lost any of his talent. This show is now (2017) 12 years old and if they do another I expect it to be of the same quality. I would love to see them together again along with Cliff Richard as they are a team and have always been. They were together for their Final Reunion Tour with Cliff in 2009/10 and showed they had not lost any of their showmanship. I have that CD and DVD and enjoyed it very much. Love to see them again.

I saw part of this concert on one of the TV channels. Searching Amazon I found this set. Having never seen the band live this is the next best thing. The music takes me back to my teens (and a bit earlier).The CDs are the full concert and the bonus is the full concert on DVD. I brought a second one as a Christmas present for the my father-in-law who has also been a life time Shadows fan.

There are very few absolutely "world-class" lead guitarists who can aspire to the height Hank Marvin reached. He plays the guitar like its an extension of his body - and even playing live gigs, the Shadows sound easily as good as they do in the studio recording an album.For me, the Shadows have a unique sound that is timeless and all of their big hits from the late 50's - through to the early 80's when Hank joined up with Mark Knopfler - are on this double-album.The Final Tour 2CD + DVD collection was recorded live in Cardiff and the Shads sound every bit as good as they did through the previous five decades!This is THE essential double album for anyone who enjoys guitar instrumentals, plus covers of many of Cliff's big hits.
