Urban Gardening
There is a growing number of people trying to grow their own food, organically. With only a few thousand dollars worth of equipment you can be growing your own food in a small space. There's a few things the book didn't address.Soilblocks are starting to be replaced with winstrip trays which are more efficent. Also there is a new tool called the mutineer which is a single hoe handle with replaceable heads. This book covers a lot of topics covered in The Market Gardener, so there is some overlap however it is excellent information and pretty comprehensive. Mel Bartholomews Square Foot Gardener is a must have book that fills in some gaps. The best free online information from market gardeners on Youtube are Conor Crickmore, Curtis Stone and JM Fortier.

Best How to book on the market for small farms
This is the best laid out book on small property gardening I've ever seen. He gives us clear directions and shares how hedoes things based on YEARS of trial and error to point out what works and how to find out what will work for you. We areusing it as a blueprint for our retirement income farm on less than 20 acres. Thank you to this author!!!!! Cost of the bookis so minimal based on the knowledge in it and the suggestions. He lays out his crop rotations with green manures, etc. Takes a lot of risk away for us just starting out. This book will save time and money for anyone who uses it in accordance with what the specifics of their property are. If you are just looking, he lets you know what to look for. If youalready have your property, he tells how to best use it. Soil health explained in detail. Love this book.

One of the best books on organic growing
Eliot Coleman is an experienced farmer, eloquent author and probably an extremely hard worker. I have always enjoyed his books, written in an easy to understand conversational style and full of valuable information for me as a ever-learning gardener and garden instructor. Even though this book is written primarily for farming, I have been able to take the information and apply it to my smaller garden beds. Exceptionally informative, shows the reader how to improve the soil with natural ingredients, and that's what it is really all about, the soil!

A pillar of any garden library
There is a reason this book is so often referenced everywhere you look. It has the perfect balance of detail while still being simple to digest. Read it cover to cover in the winter, then find yourself referencing it regularly throughout the growing season. This is a must have for anyone interested in growing a substantial portion of their family’s food.

Sensibly and lots of great information
Getting back to larger gardens, I found this book extremely informative. Reminded me of things long forgotten and brought me up to date on new ideas. Great stepping stone if planning to market garden as it bridges the small home gardener to ideas for a larger plan

Lots of good information!
While I've grown a vegetable garden for near 40 years, I'm always interested in learning how others grow their vegetables and what ideas and suggestions they have for what works for them. There are several tips in this book that I'll be trying in next year's vegetable garden and will be reading more of the book for other possibilities.

A beginners must read
An icon. I came to this book after already having studied organic farming and it wasn't what I needed now but what I could have used at the beginning of my journey. Beginners should read this for sure.

Sound advice from a voice of experience
Elliot offers his advice based on his 50 years of experience. The advice is sound and his experience comes through loud and clear. In fact, I found his book more informative that a couple of organic farming courses I took at university. The university courses were academic in nature while Elliot's advice originates from his experience. I learned the practical from him.
