While not the most beginner friendly UHF system, OpenLRS certainly is the most feature rich. Both the DTF UHF MiniRX and 1-Watt RX feature 8 sets of pins which are completely user assignable in any configuration from the most basic 8-channel PWM to a mix of CPPM and PWM with RSSI in digital or analog formats. Unlike competing UHF system, OpenLRS based systems allow the user to bind and completely configure the reciever OTA (Over-The-Air) via the OpenLRS transmitter. With a robust open-source community behind OpenLRS, many unique and powerful features are available including FrSky compatible telemetry, a lost-plane emergency locator beacon mode and remote setup & binding. Features * Cross-platform Chrome App based configuration utility runs on Mac, Linux and Windows * On-board USB port for software updates - ships with latest OpenLRSng firmware * Lowpass input filter to reduce out-of-band interference * Completely user-settable frequency selections: 413MHz up to 453MHz * Up to 24 hopping channels, user-settable * Custom pin mapping via software settings (PPM/PWM mixable - user assignable) * Adjust settings and bind wirelessly via transmitter - Reciever also be can used as a transmitter - FrSky compatible telemetry - Beacon mode to find lost aircraft - Designed in Canada! The range may or may not be as good as those but the size
These things rock for the price. I can't believe they aren't the standard for long-range RC. Dragonlink and Immersion are soooo expensive and lack the features these guys come with built in. The range may or may not be as good as those but the size, price and features I think make up for it. You can even get FRsky compatible telemetry out of these via 2 way radio directly in addition to RSSI feed to your OSD. Quite nice.

great UHF receiver from DTH Hawkeye
This is my second opensource DTH UHF Rx. This 8 channel UHF Rx is better deal then 6 channel due to position of the pins (ch1-ch6) when connecting to miniquads. They are both about $33. Only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is PPM output from Rx is not responsive as other Rx with PPM(like D4R-II).

Very compact and light receiver, with flexible configuration options. The built in USB for flashing updates is extremely nice. I did have to return one unit that kept dropping signal, so quality control seems to have a few issues. The replacement works fine however, and amazon had UPS pick up the bad unit at my house and issued a full refund.
