So glad I bought this when it was cheaper. So sorry I didn't buy three!
So, my "friend" pointed out that if I had bought three of these, I could have sold two of them at the "now" price and paid for the third to keep.Toshiba rates well on the drive lifespan benchmarks (I don't remember the website that lists them, but someone will) and I was thrilled to get a 12TB so affordably. The price has since gone up, and I'll probably hesitate to buy another right away, but for my /home directory, it does a good job.

Great drives!
I've been using Toshiba X300 HDDs pretty much exclusively for the last several years. Internal to desktops and as external USB single drives or in RAID boxes. I got 4 of these 12TB ones in a QNAP TR-004 box configured as RAID10 for backup on my new computer, as well as a 16TB drive in the computer itself. I've never had one so much as hiccup on me in all the years of using them, in 4, 5, 6, 8TB and now larger sizes. Great transfer speeds (for hard drives, anyway) and are reliable. Can't beat 'em; 4 polydactylous thumbs up.

Avoid purchasing this hard drive at all cost
I bought this drive as a spare drive and has not opened it for a couple of months since I bought it.Today, when I opened the box and tried to format it, this drive cause an un-Godly loud sound of the needle inside the drive screeching non stop. I called Toshiba since Amazon return period had passed even though the drive was brand new, and Toshiba asked me to send them proof of purchase and picture of the drive. An hour later, Toshiba promptly sent me an RMA which I have to pay for the return shipping out of my own pocket even though this is clearly a manufacturer's defect.Avoid this drive and any Toshiba drives at all cost.

Good
Got two of these. One broke after two months. I took a chance and bought another one. We will see how that one holds up.

Reliable smart park drives
I have lost WD Drives and Seagates... Toshiba holds up

Fits the bill, is what I needed.
Honestly, this is a giant drive for what I’m using it for, but hopefully I’ll be able to clear up space from multiple drives to make everything smoother. So far, it’s running perfectly, it’s speed is above what I expected, and it was as easy to install as any other internal drive. I can’t hear it above the fans I have running, so there’s a plus as well.

So Far So Good
Ran several SMART tests and everything came back good. Data transfer speeds are at the expected rates for a mechanical drive. I'm only using this as a backup drive for my data.
