DuroMax XP4400-CA, 3500 Running Watts/4400 Starting Watts, Gas Powered Portable Generator

It's a really nice little generator for the money. We ordered prior to Sandy and got one for less than $400. So far I haven't had to use it in an emergency but the power output is good in all my testing. I run it for about an hour a month just to keep it in working order.Pros: It has a good wheel kit included. The fit and finish was good for what it is. Starts easily. Lots of power options on the control panel.Cons: A little on the loud side. When the power is off all over the neighborhood it's going to stick out like a skunk at a campfire. However big your generator is, you always wish it was bigger. Really this is as big of a generator as I'd suggest for emergency power because of fuel consumption. It's not too bad on gas but over a few days it'll go through a bit. You have no choice but to store some for emergencies which is a pain.A better choice is probably a multi-fuel setup so you can tap natural gas but that was a wee bit more money than we wanted to spend at the time. Since we use lots of gasoline for yard maintenance it works for us but I worry about getting caught short. I'd also look at one of those mini 900w generators to conserve on gasoline while keeping the furnace running.

For the money.....VERY pleased! (I would rate a 5star but build quality is not 5star.)Packaging. POOR!!! I guarantee you will recieve this damaged. No re-enforcing in corners and by the time UPS or whoever gets it to you it will be damaged. (Common complaint.)The machine. Stright out of the box one pull start! I actually jumped I was so shocked! Everytime I start it.... only one pull! Produces the current as advertised. I do have to run it untill its good and hot or the engine will 'surge'. I start with full choke and as the engine 'bogs' I open the choke SLIGHTLY and wait again for it to 'bog down' advancing in this way until choke is fully open.Dissapointment. Everything about the fuel tank other than the cap. Why anyone would design a fuel tank that has the vent in a possition to fill with fuel whenever you move the machine is beyond me. WARNING!!! NEVER MOVE THIS MACHINE IF THE FUEL TANK IS MORE THAN 1/4 FULL!!!! You will fill the vapor canister with fuel!Considering my needs and how often I will use it (Emergences only) 4stars.

I was worried this generator wouldn't make it to me intact, since I live in Hawaii, but it did! The packing protection was superb, no damage at all! After a few minutes to remove the shipping protection hardware and install the wheel kit, this baby was ready to run! I filled it with gasoline, (by the way, it is made to run on gasoline with up to 10% ethanol) and gave it 5 pulls on the starter cord with the choke on and it fired right up! After that it only took 1 to 2 pulls with the choke on with the "easy-pull" starter cord! It ran really smooth, it was a bit loud, but not any louder than my 5 HP Honda Pressure washer motor. In fact I think it was a little more quieter than my Honda pressure washer motor. I haven't had to really use it yet, but I'm counting on it the next time we get another bad storm and a power outage! This gives me a bit of peace of mind, since my house is all electric and I have a refrigerator and a chest freezer! I really don't want to spend bucks on tons of ice to keep my food from rotting everytime we get a bad wind storm.

My wife purchased this generator for me at Christmas. It was on back order for awhile, but it came in February. We were w/o power for 84 hours when Hurricane Sandy hit and yes we were affected here in Ohio! We live in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio where we have power outages for no simple reason other than tree limbs taking down or shorting out wires. Last week we had one of these episodes happen where a transformer shorted out and one high tension line burned and came down. I called the power company and reported it as did a dozen neighbors! After 20 minutes I hooked this puppy up and fired it up so my wife could finish her laundry that was started and get her housework done. It may sound a bit minute compared to the East Coasters problems, but I will NOT go through a 3 day outage again without power! If needed I can hook it to the gas furnace to fire it up to have heat in the winter. It ran great for 3 1/2 hours I needed it and did the job! I am thinking of putting in a transfer box to have the ability to run certain areas of the house if we have future needs! Have you ever tried shaving by flashlight? I have and it's not fun!

Ok, this is an update 7/21/17. This genny worked great for the 1st 2 weeks. Started 1st pull and handled the load well. However day 15, the thing took several pulls to start. Seemed to run fine for a few hours then quit. After that it took 20+ pulls to get started and wouldn't run very long. All maintenance up-to-date and never stored will gas in genny. Always FRESH gas added when used and always better grade gas used. Ended up having to rent a genny to keep my current project going. Maxtool is absolutely no help, despicable customer service as they do not answer emails and after being on hold over the phone they were either rude or just plain out hung up on me several times. Thankfully Amazon has taken care of me and refunded me and the piece of garbage is going to be put out at the end of my driveway and whoever wants it can have it (just kidding). I will donate the unit to my church and the handyman can work on it and they can use it for events or sell it at their yard sale. Never again will I buy a DuroMax or any Duro- whatever product. This needs tobbe a negative 5 star rating. Thank you Amazon for your OUTSTANDING customer service and taking care of me with this nightmare.
